JAZZ SINGER

Although he enjoyed working with hysterical designers and photographers Tommy was "never just a model". Tommy is a critically acclaimed singer and Sony Columbia recording artist. His album "Quiet Times" was the first from Columbia Jazz to cross over and land in the top thirty of the international pop charts.  To his credit..... Tommy landed a principle role in the hit Broadway musical "Bubbling Brown Sugar".  Garrett played the role of "Jim"  where he mastered the the challenging choreography of Billy Wilson as well as sung the signature tunes of Duke Ellington, including "Sophisticated Lady".  It was his honor to share the stage with Broadway's finest singers, dancers, actors and the shows original star Ms. Vivian Reed. 


Tommy's voice has taken him to the four corners of the globe, performing in  night clubs, concert halls and special  galas for charitable causes. Garrett has also been requested to sing for royalty and private dinners for the world's most influential families.  In Paris, Tommy produced the spectacular review "Glamour Jazz", featuring the world's top models where Tommy sung with the great Dee Dee Bridgewater.  Legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent was a Jazz lover and one of Tommy's biggest admirers. It was Tommy's voice and charisma that inspired the creation of the cologne "Jazz" for men by YSL.

Tommy is a songwriter and the author of "The Fabulous Eccentrics Collection",  a series of short bedtime stories for adults based on the memories of singer, model, actor Tommy Garrett’s career and world travels over a thirty year period. A few story synopsis includes Mizzz Hot Damn- About Nina Simone, Tommy Garrett and Tracey Africa on the town in Paris after surviving a dangerous Nina Simone concert......... Just Like The Movies- About being the roommate of Jessica Lange in New York during the making of her first movie King Kong.........Betty, Yves and Me -- slumming in Paris with Yves Saint Laurent and his best friend, Betty Catroux…at jazz clubs, night clubs and dinner parties. YSL was one of Tommy’s biggest fans and how he created the fragrance Jazz For Men as a tribute to Tommy Garrett.........Tableau- The story of The Avant Guard dinner party given by Salvador Dali and his wife Gala, where Tommy was one of twelve guests...........The Black Cashmere Sweater- The recollections of meeting, traveling and modeling with Iman over a twenty-year period.

MODEL

Tommy's groundbreaking career was launched in NYC after being discovered by founder Eileen Ford of the famed Ford Modeling Agency.  He became one of the first African American male models to integrate the pages of the great American magazines: CO-ED, Modern Brides, Seventeen, Redbook and Glamour, where he was photographed with Beverly Johnson and Christie Brinkley. Designer Bill Blass gave Tommy his first opportunity to walk the runway during New York's fashion week, Calvin Klein was next. An assignment brought  Tommy to Paris, where he worked with the Elite Modeling Agency and managed to develop an inpressive resume of top designer shows. Counting Hermes, Dior, Pierre Balmain,  Cerutti, Paco Robanne, Thiery Mugler, Patick Kelly, Paul Smith, Claude Montana, Kenzo,  John Charles de Castelbajac,  Issey Miyake and  Kansai Yamamoto as his clients.  Voque Hommes, Paris Voque and Italian Voque, Depeche Mode and Joyce are among the European Magazines where he has been featured in photos by Davids Bailey, Eddie Kolhi and Dick Ballarium
